There is a prayer with a line that goes: “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” I feel not only is this a religious notion, but simply the way life must be. If we desire forgiveness, we must be willing to give the same to others.
Every person has, at one time or another made mistakes, offended others and acted in an improper nature. When people are on the receiving end of such an exchange, they normally feel bitter. Depending on the severity of the offence, they may stay mad (forever) or even desire vengeance.
Though this behavior is common, is it truly the best way? I have certainly been guilty of such behavior myself. When I honestly question my motives, I know I am wrong. Where does this behavior lead, and where does it end?
I feel one of the most remarkable characteristics of mankind is its ability to grow and change. It is okay to learn from the past, but I do not believe there can truly be a future without forgiveness and moving on. Business is certainly no different. One characteristic of good management is doing that which is in everyone’s best interest to maximize the benefit to all.
The desire for retribution has ruined families, marriages, friendships and even torn nations apart. Are there things it might be better to leave in the past and move on?
